If you are a hardcore traveler who always seeks adventure, you definitely need to have a handheld GPS device that will guide you to the shortest and fastest route to destinations that you are not yet familiar with. The Garmin GPSMap 60CSx will definitely do that for you and more. This handheld Garmin model is among the best in the market in this category with all its features and powerful functionality.

Functional Design

The first thing that will be noticed with the Garmin GPSMap 60CSx is its relatively huge screen. This is indeed a plus as it is able to show more of the map along with a few information. There are also a few buttons to access different functions of the device. Firstly, the power button is conveniently placed next to the antenna at the top. Zooming in and out of the map is also possible with the + and – buttons found at the top of the arcs. Other buttons found in the unit are Find, Mark, Enter, Menu and Page. There is also a four-way navigation button located at the center of the device.

Getting wet from the rain or accidently dropping the 60CSx in the water is not really a problem. This Garmin model is waterproof up to 1m level and for a maximum of 1 hour. In terms of power source, this unit works on two AA batteries and is able to last for 15 hours of non-stop usage. For more functionality, additional ports are found at the back of the device – a micro-SD slot, a mini-USB port, serial external data port and an aux antenna port.

Powerful Features

The most basic functions of any GPS device are to show you your current location in the map and to show the route from the set starting point to your destination. With the Garmin GPSMap 60CSx, it’s able to do that on a bigger screen with bigger map view compared to other handheld GPS gadgets. Also, on the same screen as the map, additional information may be placed on the top portion of the screen. You have the option on what type of information to display and how many of them; just keep in mind that the more fields you add, the lesser the map view will be as the fields will occupy more of the screen. When it comes to the map view, you have the option to have North always up or maybe the travel direction always up. You also have the capability of adding or reducing the amount of mapping details shown.

The Garmin GPSMap 60CSx is highly sensitive, hence, it is able to provide accurate map information even if you are inside a deep tunnel or under a heavy shade of trees. It is also geocaching-ready so you can go with your friends who also have GPS and play the modern hide-and-seek. Its built-in barometric altimeter is able to give you elevation information spot on.

Perhaps, the only downside of the Garmin GPSMap 60CSx is its size – it is quite big and bulky that it will not be able to fit inside your pocket. However, this may not pose too much of an issue as it comes with a lanyard and a strap anyways. Also, with a price not more than $276 (on Amazon), the Garmin 60CSx is truly a great companion even if you’re not an adventurer.
